Student & Family Ministry Leaders

These mentors are humble, effective student ministry leaders (or former student ministry leaders) from our Church Forward network.

They have served faithfully with character and impact over time. Each one is excited and ready to share their time, hearts and experience with you.

To make the most of your strategic mentor connection, we encourage you to do the following before you make your first call.

  • Review the purpose and approach of strategic mentoring on the “About” page of this website. Strategic mentoring is NOT long-term mentoring but rather a strategic conversation around your current challenge or question.
  • Prepare your thoughts & questions using the Mentee reflection questions found in the “Resource” section.
Then, by all means, chose a mentor and make your call!

Current Ministry Role: Youth Ministry Leader Yrs. in ministry: 21 years Previous Ministry roles: Volunteer to begin and lead youth ministry at River from (1996 - 2002), Wichita KS Women's small group leader: 2000 - current, Wichita, KS Missions work: Albania from 1994 - 1996 Volunteer with Children Ministry: 2000 - Current

I have lived in the Wichita area since 1974. I chose to follow Christ following my sophomore year of college at Wichita State University. In 1990, I had the privilege of helping start River Community Church, along with 29 others, while working as a counselor in the drug and alcohol field. It has been so incredible to watch God's faithfulness throughout the years to guide the leaders in our church to have wisdom and to stay the course of faithful discipleship. In 1994,I moved overseas to Albania for two years and thought God would send me back there after obtaining some necessary schooling needed for long-term IMB workers. It was during this time that I helped start the River youth group as a volunteer, believing I would be moving back overseas at the end of the schooling I needed. God continued to build in me a desire to work with the youth in the church and soon our youth group grew to a point of needing someone on staff to run the ministry. It was a decision point for me and after lots of prayer and counsel, I decided that God was leading me to stay in Wichita and lead the youth ministry from a staff position. I have tried to do this faithfully from that point to the present.
